On June 9, 2015, H.E. Chea Serey, Director General of Central Banking from the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), was invited to speak during a luncheon in Raffles Le Royal Hotel, organized by the British Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia (BritCham). Approximately 90 participants from the BritCham, the Young Entrepreneur Association of Cambodia (YEAC), and other interesting parties attended this business luncheon. During the event, H.E. Chea Serey briefed the audiences about the importance of financial and monetary stability on businesses, presented the current state of Cambodia’s economy and shared the perspective from a central banker on the opportunities and challenges arising from the approach of ASEAN Economic Community as well as the high degree of dollarization in Cambodia. The audiences were delighted and able to take away with them three key messages, that is, the importance of financial stability for businesses and households, the required participation from all stakeholders in maintaining stability, and necessity of local currency usage. Also, the YEAC has welcomed the initiative and is working toward listing their prices in local currency.
