Overview of Payment Instruments
As Cambodia is a highly dollarized economy, most of the payment instruments are paid in two currencies U.S. Dollar (USD) and Khmer Riel (KHR). However, the volume of USD payment transactions is larger than that of KHR payment transactions.
Use of non-cash payment instruments in Cambodia has a feature of limited interbank transactions, with absence of widely accepted electronic payment services. Non-cash payment instruments are legally encompassed within the Law on Negotiable Instruments and Payment Transactions and the Prakas on the Checks Standard and the Prakas on the Introduction of Payment Order Format for Credit Remittance with specific technical standard form.
