On Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, has given a lecture on "Economic Diplomacy in the Digital Era". The lecture was attended by nearly 200 diplomats, both online and offline. On that occasion, H.E Dr. Chea Serey shared and explained the main concepts, including the history and the importance of the currency, the role of the central bank in maintaining price stability and overseeing the banking system, the challenges posed by dollarization and the promotion of riel, as well as national payment system development, especially Bakong system, and its connection with other countries in the region and the world.
H.E. Dr. also highlighted the importance of strengthening the national economy and developing a financial system that is resilient to external factors, avoiding complete reliance on any system that could make the country very vulnerable when there is an international political conflict. Lastly, H.E. Dr. urged the diplomats, both local and abroad, to promote Cambodia's achievements and promote economic and diplomatic relations, which is an important part in establishing the nation's status abroad.
