On Tuesday June 6, 2023, the National Bank of Cambodia hosted a bilateral meeting with the Bank of Thailand, presided over by H.E. Chea Chanto, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia and H.E. Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput, Governor of the Bank of Thailand in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The meeting is organized annually to strengthen amity and cooperation between the two central banks.
In this occasion, H.E. Chea Chanto, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, and H.E. Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput, Governor of the Bank of Thailand also announce the second phase of Cross-border QR payments between Cambodia and Thailand. Starting from this day onward, Thai people that have Thai baht in their account can pay by scanning QR code at around 1.5 million retail merchants in Cambodia which will help to promote the use of local currencies and promote financial inclusion, facilitate cross border trade activities, and boost tourism in both countries.
