On Tuesday, 16th 2024, the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), in cooperation with the Ratanakiri Administration, organized a dissemination workshop on “Microfinance Sector in Cambodia”, which aims to promote financial literacy, increase responsible consumption of financial services and consumer protection, and enhance public awareness of financial frauds in communities.
This workshop was presided over by H.E. Rath Sovannorak, Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia and H.E. Ngin Nell, Ratanakiri Deputy Provincial Governor, with participants from local authorities, the Cambodian Microfinance Association (CMA), the Association of Banks in Cambodia (ABC) and banking and microfinance institutions in the province.
At the event, H.E. Deputy Governor presented the history of the development of microfinance sector, re-establishment and evolution of Cambodian banking system, importance of Khmer Riel usage, FinTech advancement, the National Bank of Cambodia’s efforts in promoting financial awareness, market conduct, and financial service consumer protection. In addition, the participants actively raised questions and challenges they have encountered in consuming financial services.
