The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) held the official inauguration ceremony for upgrading the Center for Banking Studies (CBS) to the Institute for Banking Studies (IBS) and launching the IBS Dormitory on December 26, 2024 at the Institute of Banking Studies, which was presided over by H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, and attended by approximately 300 representatives of government ministries-institutions, development partners, associations and banks and financial institutions.
At the event, H.E. Dr. Chea Serey Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, highlighted the history and development of the center for Banking Studies that was established by the National Bank of Cambodia in 1994. The center was initially located in Sangkat Wat Phnom, Khan Daun Penh, Phnom Penh and started accepting outside students in its two-year associate degree in banking in 1995. On November 24, 2022, the center was relocated to Khan Sen Sok, Phnom Penh, in which the ceremony was held with developed infrastructure. In October 2024, the center was accredited as the Institute for Banking Studies successfully by the Sub-decree No. 228 ANK.BK. Under the Sub-decree, the institute is fully competent to provide training for bachelor and associate degrees in banking management, finance and economics majors.
Meanwhile, the National Bank of Cambodia has built the dormitory in the complex of the institute for students that in need and students who come from provinces or areas that are too far for them to travel. Thus far, the institute has trained 3,175 associate-degree students including 1,997 females for 33 prmotion and has employed 65 lecturers.
