H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Assistant Governor and Director General of Central Banking of the National Bank of Cambodia, was invited to be a keynote speaker at the Point Zero Forum, in Zurich, Switzerland.
This 3 day-forum, started from 21-23 June, 2022, was co-hoted by the Swiss National Bank, the Monetary Authority of Singapore, and the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).
The Point Zero Forum served as a platform for experts from major financial technology companies and about 500 central banks from around the world to exchange of views on financial technology between the public and private sectors. In addition, the platform also provides an opportunity to demonstrate the latest financial technologies, especially the use of blockchain technology for the creation of cryptocurrencies, digital currencies, and cross-border payment systems.
During the roundtable discussion, H.E. Dr. Chea Serey shared her experiences on the development and modernization of payment systems in Cambodia, especially the establishment of the Bakong system, which uses blockchain technology and becomes a payment system to facilitate inter-banks and financial institutions’ payments.
In addition, she also participated in discussions with regulators to find tips for connecting cross-border payment systems and introducing regulations to maintain financial stability.
It should be mentioned that H.E. Dr. Chea Serey attended the Point Zero Forum at the invitation of H.E. Thomas Jordan, Governor of the Swiss National Bank and H.E. Ravi Menon, Managing Director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
