On June 1, 2023, Mr. Ly Sideth, Deputy Director General of Central Banking Directorate of the National Bank of Cambodia, presided over the second workshop for regulators on “Developing Derivative Market in Cambodia: A tool for managing risk ”. The workshop was co-organized by the National Bank of Cambodia, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Cambodia and the IFC from June 1-2,2023 at Centre of Banking Studies.
This is our second workshop on Developing Derivative Market in Cambodia. However, unlike the first workshop where only regulators were invited to participate, this time we have expanded the opportunities to other stakeholders such as commercial banks to better understand derivative products and how they can be used to manage risk. The purpose of this workshop is to promote the development of a well-regulated Khmer Riel base derivative market to serve as effective risk management tools in support of Khmer Riel denominated financial products, as part of the larger effort to promote Khmer Riel. This workshop also serves as a platform for these stakeholders to work hand-in-hand and create policies that support a well-regulated derivative market that can help with financial risk management and improve asset allocation efficiency.
