H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), received a courtesy call by Mr. Katsufumi Uchida, Managing Executive Officer and Director for Asia Pacific Division of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) on Monday, September 9, 2024 at the National Bank of Cambodia.
In the meeting, Mr. Katsufumi summarized the progress of SMBC in the participation in Cambodian banking sector through its investee Acleda Bank Plc and Representative Office in Cambodia that conducting collection and research on information for analysis as well as preparation of strategies based on the economic situation. He emphasized bank’s realistic long-view commitment for the participation.
In response, H.E. Governor welcomed the mentioned commitment and encouraged the bank to consider its banking expansion to become a financial institution to more actively promote investment and trade between Cambodia and Japan. H.E. Governor and Mr. Katsufumi mentioned the advancement of the cross-border payment connectivity project between the two countries and the cooperation in investing the National Bank of Cambodia’s international reserves such as the investment in green bonds.
