H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), received a courtesy call by H.E. Shaharuddin Onn, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malaysia to the Kingdom of Cambodia, on September 18, 2024 at the Center for Banking Studies (CBS).
In the meeting, H.E. Shaharuddin Bin Onn highlighted the good cooperation between the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) and the Government of Malaysia and between businesspeople of the two countries and expressed the commitment to the enhancement and the expansion of the collaboration. He also praised the great organization of the Preah Srey Içanavarman Economy and Monetary Museum (SOSORO) and the Center for Banking Studies of the National Bank of Cambodia.
H.E. Governor warmly welcomed H.E. Ambassador for his diplomatic mission to the Kingdom of Cambodia and summarized the close cooperation in banking sector between the two countries to foster the bilateral investment and trade. H.E. Governor also mentioned the large banks invested by Malaysians in Cambodia and they have expanded their operations and provided good cooperation in cross-border payment connectivity. For instance, the National Bank of Cambodia and the Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) plans to launch the bilateral cross-border payment via QR code on September 19, 2024.
Overall, H.E. Governor and H.E. Ambassador agreed to keep extending the bilateral cooperation for the interests of the people of the two countries.
