H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), received a courtesy call by a delegation of the U.S. Department of the Treasury led by Mr. Robert Kaproth, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Asia and the Pacific, on October 7, 2024 at the National Bank of Cambodia.
In the meeting, they discussed some aspects of the economy and financial system of Cambodia as well as the updates and effectiveness of the previous technical assistance for the development of the country’s financial system.
Mr. Robert Kaproth presented the facilitation procedures for communications with the Department’s team to find possibility of extending the cooperation on the technical assistance as per the specific demands at the National Bank of Cambodia. In addition, he also asked about the de-dollarization progress in Cambodia.
In response, H.E. Governor expressed her appreciation for the possibility of extending the technical assistance for the development of Cambodia’s banking system and highlighted the promotion of riel usage in supporting the more effective implementation of monetary policy. She also pointed out the investment of a part of the international reserves on green bonds.
