H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, was invited to participate as a speaker in a roundtable forum on “Cross-Border Payment Rails: From Infrastructure Roll-Out to a Smooth Customer Journey” on May 6, 2025, in Milan, Italy.
The forum was organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in collaboration with the Bank of Italy and the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), with opening remarks by ADB President Mr. Masato Kanda and the Governor of the Bank of Italy, Mr. Fabio Panetta, and closing remarks by the Governor of the Bank of Korea, Mr. Chang Yong Rhee.
H.E. Governor shared Cambodia’s experience in developing payment infrastructure and expanding Cambodia’s payment system connectivity with regional countries and international payment service providers. The development of the Cambodian payment system has been recognized by national and international circles as having increased the provision of financial services to Cambodians across the country, especially in remote areas. This has contributed to reducing costs and risks in payment transactions, as well as promoting ease, security, and efficiency in payments. In addition, the Cambodian payment system has also helped promote the use of the national currency by increasing the ease and possibility of making payments with countries with which Cambodia has established cross-border payment systems.
