H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), received a courtesy call from Ms. Tania Meyer, Country Manager of the World Bank for Cambodia, and her delegation on 25 November 2025 at the NBC.

During the meeting, H.E. the Governor and Ms. Meyer reflected on the strong and constructive cooperation between the two institutions. Ms. Meyer highlighted the World Bank’s key technical assistance to the NBC, including capacity development in international reserves management, crisis management and prevention frameworks, the establishment of a deposit insurance system, and technology-related initiatives. She also praised the NBC for its achievements in maintaining exchange rate and price stability, ensuring the soundness of the banking system, and advancing Cambodia’s digital payment ecosystem. In this regard, she encouraged the NBC to continue sharing its successful experiences in payment system development and other policy achievements with other countries.

In response, H.E. the Governor noted that Cambodia has actively shared its experience in developing its digital payment systems, managing international reserves, and supervising the banking sector with countries in the region and globally. She further affirmed that the NBC welcomes study visits by senior delegations from other central banks seeking to learn from Cambodia’s payment system development.

H.E. the Governor and Ms. Meyer also exchanged views on Cambodia’s recent economic developments and external challenges. H.E. the Governor highlighted both the opportunities and associated risks of rapid technological advancement, particularly the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity threats, and online scams, underscoring the need for close collaboration among all stakeholders to enhance financial literacy and maintain financial stability.
